So much more than just a pretty watch face

Arguably the best mountain in Switzerland, a lot of people have sworn their allegiance to varied, voluptuous Verbier. While a lot of Swiss resorts get great snow and have loads of terrain, Verbier offers a bit of a cherry on that already sweet sweet sundae. High, steep, and sometimes a little mean, a skier can challenge Verbier to a duel and will seldom come out unscathed. But the bumps and bruises will be proof that Verbier can kick a little ass and get you going.

Like a Whistler, Verbier attracts a lot of attention. With varied terrain and a great village, families and friends come for weeks at a time. Lift lines you thought you left behind in Canada, have re-emerged in full force on this mountain. And though the snow doth gather, so do the skiers eager and willing to fight you for it. It can be a bit of a challenge to find powder if you slept in and had a leisurely pain au chocolate while the other skiers lined up before the lift even opened. Luckily, there are a lot of places to check out and even without a nice soft pillow of powder, the chutes hang on to the snow and you can always go play in them.

The village of Verbier is renowned. It’s always tasty (so much fondue), always fun (so many bars) and always full of people who are partying like they don’t still have 5 weeks of vacation left after this trip. The dance clubs are welcoming and all ages. Everyone from 16 to 80 shakes more than a leg. And in typical Swiss tradition, the bars are full of groups lingering over a nice aperitif and some political conversation (those Swiss Germans always get everything).

Verbier is a perfect place for a week. And you may have a hard time trying to stay there for less than one. Places book super early and normally in Saturday-Saturday increments. You can easily get to Verbier in a few hours from Geneva by train. And if you want to get away from either hustle or bustle or both, Leysin and Villars are a short train away.

For a big group of friends, Verbier will be a great addition to the party, for families, there’s lots to do and lots of terrain for beginners and intermediates to get up to speed. No matter who you are, and what it is you want out of your ski holiday, it would be impossible to not fall a little in love with this Swiss belle.
