Solden is a corduroy lovers paradise. Not your dad’s pants, but the perfect pointy ridges left by expert drivers of snow manicuring machines. They take grooming VERY seriously at Solden. If you like big, wide-open runs on smooth, molded surfaces, this place is for you.
If you are more of a fluffy stuff fan, you may find yourself crying as you arrive in the morning after a huge dump to find that the snow cats have left no powder in their dust. Even finding some residual powder off-piste is a challenge as most people hit this mountain for the controlled terrain.
Best news about Solden: they have quite possibly the best dancing bar in the world!!! Now while this may be an exaggeration, but not really, I can tell you that of all the dance bars these feet have moonwalked, this one is tops. Not only does it have a great cave-like atmosphere, super fun music that goes from 80s pop to hard rock to Austrain ballroom ballads without missing a beat, this place has a crowd that blends old and young, punky and preppie, trendy and ski-hill chic, Mohawks with blue hairs with those who still have their toques and ski boots on from a day of skiing and drinking heavily. If it is at all possible, check out the Kuhstall in Solden and you will for sure have one of the best Après ski dance parties ever.
And….if you are a fan of the world cup race circuit, the Solden GS is a stellar event. It’s pretty early on in the season and so skiing is sparse if even possible, but the thousands of cheering/boozing fans that gather to rejoice in all that is competitive skiing, make for a great time. Bring a big flag to cheer on your country or your favorites and sip gluhwein as you shake your cowbells to ring in the opening of race season.
