Come for the hot tubs stay for some skiing

Fairmount is a teeny tiny resort located in the big bad rockies. It is known as a place for beginners to learn quickly on a hill in an amazing location. Though the resort is small, it packs a punch for activities for everyone, including those (air quotes) “non-skiers”. Basically, Fairmount sells itself as “come families, hit the spa, hang in the hot tubs, and take lessons and learn how to ski.” It works. For a family vacation that is a little less ski and a little more relax, recover and get your feet cold, this place is for you.

Fairmount is about 3 and a half hours from Calgary (the cops love to troll these highways so this is an advisory time doing the speed limit). And once you are here, you can basically spend a few days freezing and then melting. The Fairmount Hot Springs are less ‘hot rock leeching water into a natural mountain pool’ and more ‘giant outdoor swimming pool that is toasty hot even in -30 degree weather.’ But I love them all the same.

It is truly beautiful in this area and very peaceful. It doesn’t scream RESORT, it more whispers take your shoes off, stay a while.

There is a terrain park made especially for beginners so you can start here and try and ride the rails before you get laughed out of a park elsewhere. There’s probably a higher baby to adult ratio on the slopes than most places and so it makes for some good times watching toddlers learn how to make a pizza.

Fairmount is also close to Panorama and you can definitely check out both places. But if you’re in the mood for r&r&s (s being skiing of course) this little mountain that could, does.
