True to its ritzy name, St. Moritz off gases rich and famous. But even if you are not an avid fan of winter polo, rabbit fur or three-carat diamonds, if you are a fan of that free falling white stuff, than the price of your hotel will become less significant as you dive into the deep.

This mountain gets a lot of snow. When we went it literally poured. For days. The kind of snow where if the slope isn’t of a certain steepness, you get stuck. The kind of snow where you float down the mountain. The kind of snow where if you accidentally go off a cliff, you barely notice. The kind of snow where if you loose your ski, it takes two hours and three pissed off friends to find it. Get the picture?

And the best thing, you will have so much of the mountain all to yourself. (At least Corviglia where we were, was nice and empty) While the other guests enjoy their third glass of wine over a long lunch, or head back to the village to spa or bank or something, you can hog the powder. While St. Mortiz doesn’t have a surplus of steeps and expert terrain, the quantity and quality of the snow makes up for it.

There are a few really tasty terrain treats however and you will spot the rocky open bowls from below. A few minutes of traversing around las trais fluors leads to a really nice pitch that covets deep powder. The ski-out is a bit of a bumpy adventure, but hey. You can easily make several rounds on this run before running out of either steam or snow.

Be sure to enter the snow dome, you’ll see it at the top of the mountain, for at least a beer before skiing out and back to town. If you’re lucky, like we were, there will be a crowd of Spaniards rocking out like good Après skiers should. If the crowd seems a little sleepy, it’s up to you to get things going but don’t worry, the bartender/DJ is more than happy to help. I think it’s his mission to create a good Après atmosphere in the dome daily.

In town, though there are high-end restaurants galore, there are also some great places for pub snacks and pizza. A well-to-do family resort, there seem to be a lot of teenagers hanging around drinking from flasks while mom and dad dine somewhere on the other side of the village. At a lot of the dance type clubs it feels kind of like teen night, but be persistent and don’t get discouraged, there are some great bars for all tastes you just have to be persistent in finding them. Watch out for cougars. They are extra spicy around here and definitely on the prowl.
